Cohen's First Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We celebrated by having the Kindrick side over to our house. It was fun to have family together and enjoy a great meal. Cohen had sweet potatoes and green beans. He loves sweet potatoes but isn't too crazy about the green beans yet. Hope everyone enjoyed being with family and friends where ever that might have been!

6 Months and some change...

Well, Cohen is 6 months 11 days old and he's quiet the the chatter box. Here are a few things that Cohen has been doing or getting into lately.

1. He has teeth!!! The first two cut through on Friday the 6th. Needless to say, fingers won't be venturing in there anytime soon.

2) Cohen's almost crawling... Sara and I will soon have a mobile infantile in our house. HOUSTON BAR YOUR DOORS!!!! Seriously, it's great. He's rocking back and forth on his knees and scooting forward from time to time.

3) Babbling... Cohen has alot to say for such a little person. I love it...

4) Hasn't met a stranger yet... The boy smiles at everyone.

5) Still loves to play on the floor and kick his legs.

Monday, October 26, 2009

Hello everyone. Not too much new going on but I thought I would share some new pictures of Cohen. We went to the park last weekend and he loved it. Now that the weather is cooler it is much nicer to go.

School is going pretty well. My class is doing well and it is almost report card time for the 2nd 6 weeks. I got a new little girl this past week from Cameroon, Africa. She is sweet as can be. She speaks pretty good English considering her first language is French. It will be fun to see her progress in kindergarten. If you have time, please pray for 2 little boys in my class. They are taking up a lot of my time because they feel it is okay to do whatever they feel like and that it isn't okay to follow directions. I am practicing patience alot with them, but it gets tiring day after day. They are sweet boys, they just have some work to do in the behavior category. Everyone else is doing super good in the class and are getting better and better at ignoring the behaviors of the two.

Well, Jerimiah just got home from class so I'll post the pictures and that will be all for now.

Cohen-5 Months

It is hard to believe that Cohen if 5 months old already. The time has gone so fast. He is growing and learning new things like crazy. He goes to the dr. at the end of the month and I'll be curious to how much he weighs. The closer to 22 pounds the happier I'll be. That is when we can for sure stop carrying him in his carseat and switch over to a different one. He is getting so heavy for me to carry in that thing. I guess it will make my arms stronger until he is done with it.

Grandpa and Grandma Bensema were here for a quick weekend. Cohen had his Baby Dedication at church on Sunday and they wanted to be here for it. We had breakfast at our house on Saturday morning, the traditional pancakes, eggs and sausage and then headed off to Galveston. My dad and Brenda had never been there so it was fun to go. I had not been there in over a year after Ike hit last September. There is still alot of damage and stuff they are working on, but they have made some progress in alot of areas. Sunday was church and then we had everyone over to our house for a steak dinner. It was a fun, short weekend with them. Hopefully, they will be back in December to spend more time with us at the holidays. If that happenes, I plan on making a quick trip to Iowa sometime in January or February. We have some long weekends that I could come up on and not have to miss school.

I'm going to write now some of Cohen's things that he is doing and liking at 5 months:
-loves to play with daddy

-still likes his binky, but uses it more to chew on then suck.

-almost has his first tooth. We can feel it but just hasn't popped out yet.

-tried some rice cereal for the first time.

-is so happy. Almost always smiling and laughing.

-loves kicking his feet when laying on the floor.

-can roll really well from his belly to his back and surprises himself when he rolls from back to belly.

-loves chewing on everything.

-loves to play on the floor.

Great Grandma Bensema and Cohen

Great Grandpa Bensema and Cohen

First airplane trip. He did awesome!

Sorry everyone who checks in on us. We have been crazy busy it seems and I finally decided I better update. My goal from now on is to try and blog at least every other day. Please keep me accountable.

Our trip to Iowa was awesome! We enjoyed the weather and people there so much! It was nice when we stepped outside and did not automatically start sweating. I got to catch up with alot of friends and family and it was great bringing Cohen around the old stomping grounds. We enjoyed our time at Grandpa's house and Cohen really starting developing a new trick. Smiling and talking alot! He is quite the little chatter box now and it is awesome! Alot of times at night when he is done eating we will lay him back in the crib and he just starts chatting away. He loves his mobile and starts to kind of yell when it stops so that we know to restart it. It is adorable! He is getting stronger and growing like a weed.

He had shots the end of June and boy did he not like that. Neither did mommy and daddy. He screamed for a good portion of the day and we did alot of rocking and snuggling.
I am on the count down for school to start. Having the extra month off has now put me in the situation that I am ready that much quicker. I love being home with Cohen, but I figured out that stay at home mom at this point is not quite what I am ready for. It will still be very difficult those first couple days away from him, but I am ready to get back to my room and get it set up for the new school year. That is one of my favorite parts. I get to have my OCD moment and usually get made fun of by the other teachers for having things so particular. You would never guess I have this problem if you look at my bedroom and the mess it is, I guess the classroom is different though. We are having some kind of jungle theme so I have been checking out the teacher's stores this week in hopes of finding stuff.

In two weeks Cohen and I will be making a second trip up to Iowa. My dad was part of a singing group quite a few years ago and they are doing some reunion like concerts lately. They had the first one back in March, but being so close to my due date, I was not able to go. Well, they are playing at my dad and Brenda's church on August 9 and dad(being the great guy that he is) is helping out by flying me up. I rarely missed a concert with them and I often would go early with dad and help, or at least try, with the set up and such. I am very excited! Well, I will stop for now but I hope this becomes more regular in the next weeks. Good night!

It's 101 outside!!!

So today marks the seventh day of record breaking heat in Houston!!! 101 degrees and dry!!! The yard has started to die, and not just ours. Everyone on the street it seems has a dying yard. Except for the guy accross the street, FRIKIN' LANDSCAPER!!! The limes in the lime tree aren't doing to well either, and on top of all of this!!! A water main busted today and our water is out! Although the tech did call and explain it should be back on today.

Yep that's right!!! It's out and AWESOME!!!! Yeah there's a few cheap laughs and a thin plot... SO WHAT ROTTENTOMATOES.COM!?!?!?!? Who cares? Not me.

Our Bedroom
I finally have some pictures of the house to post. We (actually mostly just me, Sara) have painted almost every room. The only thing left is the bathroom in our room and the office. The bathroom is going to get done next Friday when Auntie April keeps Cohen over night and the office, well I'll leave that one for Jerimiah. We eventually would like to get a spare bed for in there so we will probably just wait to paint until we get that. Hope you enjoy the pictures and everyone is welcome anytime to come by if you are ever in Houston!

Can't sleep, so I'll blog...

On my way to spend the night at Nina and Papi's house.
TOne of my favorite things to do: taking a nap with daddy.

Stretching out big in my crib.

Oh mom, I hate when you make me wear this hat...
For some reason, I went to bed and could not fall asleep so I thought I would get up and work on the blog. I hope ya'll like the new look. It took me awhile to figure out the part with our name, but after much trying, I finally got it! We didn't have to much going on today, just the normal Saturday things. Jerimiah had to work from 3 to close so Nina and Papi came over and we had Pizza Hut and just hung out for awhile.
Friday night, Jerimiah and I had a date night. It was great! Cohen went and spent the night at his parents house and we got a full night's sleep! It felt wonderful but was glad to have the little guy back this morning when Jerimiah went and picked him up. They even brought mom her favorite breakfast, sausage and cheese kolaches! Yum!
We are counting down the days until Iowa. I am very excited to be able to spend time there and to see people that I miss. I think Grandpa is pretty excited to have us there also and can't wait to bring Cohen to Interstates and show him off. I've starting my packing lists and this will be quite different then before with having to back for a baby also. At least his clothes are little and we can stuff then in different places in the suitcase. We are are T-minus 16 days and counting. Yeah!
One last note, Happy Birthday to my sister! Hope your day was great and wish we could have spent it with you!

1 Month Old

Cohen is now 1 month and a week old. Time has gone fast! He is still doing great. He is starting to really show some personality now. Here are a few things about him so far:

*He eats about every 2 hours in the daytime and usually has 3-4 ounces. At night he normally eats twice during the night and also eats 3-4 ounces then.
*He loves cuddling and especially after he has eaten.
*He loves being rocked with his fuzzy blanket before naptime and after he has eaten in the middle of the night.
*He loves to spend time in daddy's lap while he plays XBox.
*He is a great baby and on the go. He sleeps through alot and is good while we are out and about.
*He still loves his binky (pacifier). We are trying to transition him from the newborn Soothie ones to the regular pacifiers. He still prefers the Soothie though.
*He is starting to like his baths a little more. If the water is warm and the washcloth is warm and covering him from the moment we put him in, he is usually pretty good with it.

We have booked our flights, we will be in Iowa starting June 30. I will be staying with Cohen until July 10 and Jerimiah will be flying back on the 6th so he can come back and work. We are looking forward to this trip very much!

Our Little Man

Cohen is two weeks old and doing awesome! We went in for his 2 week check up on Wednesday and he is up 7 pounds and 1 ounce and grew one more inch to 19.5. The dr. said he looked great and he wouldn't need to go back until his 2 month check up. He is still doing formula and is eating now about every 2-2.5 hours. He started at 2 ounces each feeding but just yesterday and today we have moved him to 3 ounces because he was still hungry after eating the 2. He normally sleeps at least 1.5 hours after eating and is awake a little as he starts to get hungry again. At night, he is usually able to go a bit longer so that is nice to get some good stretches of sleep in between feedings. Nina (Jerimiah's mom) finally is home for her 2 week stretch at home. She works 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off up at the North Slope of Alaska for an oil company. She had left the Tuesday before Cohen was born and came in on Thursday, which was his original due date (May 14). We gave him his first real bath tonight and he loved it! He just layed there and relaxed for awhile. He was very cute! He even needed his binky. We can't not leave home without having that with us, which we learned the other night at Papi and Nina's. But after searching through the diaper bag, we found it and Cohen was much happier. Nina will be home until the 26th and then my Dad and Brenda are coming down the 29th for a few days. It will be nice to have them here and see them again. Jerimiah and I are working on finally arrangements of coming to Iowa at the end of June/beginning of July. I am very excited since I have not been there since last summer. And one of my first stops will be the Pizza Ranch! :) I will leave you with some pictures of our little peanut.

May I Introduce to You...

Cohen Lee Kindrick
Cohen Lee Kindrick decided to come join us 2 weeks earlier then expected. He was born on April 30 at 7:54 in the morning. He weighs 6 pounds 15 ounces and is 18.5 inches long. He has beautiful blue eyes and just a little bit of reddish brown hair.
We got to come home yesterday, Saturday, and it was great to get to sleep in my own soft bed. Hospital beds are no fun, especially when they are waking you up ever so often to check this, that and everything else.
He has really been a very good baby so far. I am up early today with him after feeding him, but he is back to sleep already. Last night, Jerimiah was awesome and got up with him, feed him, changed him and let me get some rest. He is a great daddy! Cohen hasn't really taken too well to the breast milk so we have been bottlefeeding. We are going to keep trying but we will just see how it goes. Let me share with you the crazy story of the 11 hours before he was born.
This past Monday was my last day at school because my blood pressure had gone up and the dr. asked me to wrap things up at school so I could rest until the baby was born. So Tuesday and Wednesday I was at home resting. On Wednesday afternoon I needed to run to the eye dr. to try some new contacts so I went there for a short while. Jerimiah worked all day and got home at 7 PM. We needed a few things from the grocery store so we ran up to the store that is about 5 minutes fom our house. We were shopping away and all the sudden I felt like I needed to go to the bathroom. Not thinking anything was different then my normal million bathroom trips, I started walking to the front of the store. All the sudden I felt a gush a water and I was a little bit concerned. I went to the bathroom and I was soaked. I cleaned up the best that I could then headed to find Jerimiah. He was looking at some magazines so I walked up to him and said, Um...I think we better get going, I believe my water just broke. The look on his face was priceless. I headed to the car and Jerimiah finished paying and we headed home to call the dr. and to grab the bags to go.
We were at the hospital about an hour after my water broke and they examined me to make sure that it had fully ruptured and it did. They got me all set up in a room and I was very fortunate that my dr. was the on call dr. The nurses called her and they got me all my IV's and started me on a slow poticin drip to help the contractions. At this point I was 2.5 cm dilated and still just 80% effaced. The contractions started getting worse, so they gave me 2 shots of pain medication, but that did not help. About 3 AM they finally gave me my epidural and was then able to sleep some. The dr. came I think it was around 7 sometime and we started pushing. And at 7:54, Mr. Cohen was born. He is doing great.
He is a very good baby so far and is beautiful. We will try to update more often now and get lots of pictures of him up.

Okay...I know it has been awhile

I know, I know. It has been almost two months since I have posted anything. We have been crazy busy plus we have moved! Yeah! We finally closed on our house on March 27 and got to move in the next day. It was a crazy weekend and I was so tired to go back to school on Monday. It has been so nice though and we have so much more room to actually move around and put things. Also, I finally got to put all Cohen's stuff up and his nursery is ready to go at this point! Jerimiah's dad painted the room for us as soon as the moving company had everything unloaded and were finished. It is a sage green color and looks wonderful with his jungle theme items. I had a baby shower at school the following Tuesday and the ladies there also helped fill things up in the room. It was a blast.

I will be 35 weeks tomorrow. It is hard to imagine that we will have a baby in just a few short weeks. I start my once a week check ups tomorrow and I go in for an ultrasound next Monday to see what position he is in and to make sure that he is not getting too big with me being diagnosed with the gestational diabetes. He is still moving and kicking around like crazy. I can't really tell if it is his bottom or head that is right under my lungs, but I'm hoping it is his bottom so that I do not need a C-Section. But, just like his momma, could be. I was a C-section and Jerimiah was natural. So we will just have to wait and see what the ultrasound shows.

Our kindergarten went to the Houston Zoo last week Friday. We had beautiful weather and the kids loved it. I had plenty of parents go, so we could split the kids up and not have to walk in one big group. We spent from about 10-2 there and was a lot of fun. It was nice to be there earlier in the day because most animals were up and moving around.

Anyway, I will start to post some pictures I have taken lately. I will add more with the house as we organize and clean better. Things are still being thrown around and moved as we figure out where everything will go. I will start with a picture of me that I think was taken at about 32 weeks. I know it was Spring Break and I think that's how many I was then. Also, I will put some of Cohen's nursery. We still have some things to decorate with that are at Jerimiah's parents, but they are baby shower gifts so I have to wait for 2 more weeks when we have that at my house. Here they are, I will add another picture of me tomorrow, hopefully Jerimiah will take one if I ask. :)

28 Weeks

Things just don't ever seem to slow down here lately. I had a four day weekend and it was so nice. But, it was filled with many different things. We have been looking at houses for about the last month or so and had put an offer in on a foreclosure. It has been about 2 weeks since we put the offer on it but still have not heard anything. But, on Friday we went to look at about 5 more houses and found one that we loved. It is an older home, built in 1980, but was totally remodeled in November through January. It is very cute and just enough space for what we need at this time. It is in a more developed neighborhood also so there are advances of having trees and things like that. Well, we put the offer in Friday afternoon after looking in the morning and we heard back from our agent at 5:30 that night that they had accepted and he had already moved the paperwork on to where it needed to be. Saturday and Sunday, Jerimiah worked and I rested and today we were filled up again. A week and a half ago I found out that I have gestational diabetes so this morning I met with the dietician to come up with meal plans from now until May. What a pain this is going to be. I also will need to poke myself 4 times a day to keep track of my glucose numbers. Then, this afternoon we were off to the house to meet our agent and while we were there the inspector did his thing and the air conditioner man checked all that out. Earlier this morning the pest control guy had been there so all that is taken care of already. The close date we are shooting for at this time is March 6, as long as all goes well the reat of the way. We are very excited. This is an answer to pray as we now know where we will be moving when the apartment lease is up. I will post more pictures after we get in a settled. My first big project when we move in is to set the nursery up and I am way excited!! That's all for now.

26 Weeks

It is hard to believe that this is the 26 week. I go to the doctor tomorrow afternoon for an appointment. They will be doing the diabetes test and I really hope I pass because I do not want to have to take the 3 hour test. After this appointment I will be starting to go every 2 weeks instead of every 4. That's all for now.
